| The Capona is a name
given to the male sheep that leads the flock. In many ways Wool Growers
is a leader in its community. The sheep featured in our logo was taken from
a 1957 (date?) photo. This Capona sheep is the leading sheep of
the flock and as such is the most intelligent one in the group.
On a particular day, the sheepherder took off his hat and placed
it on this sheeps head. To the surprise and delight of everyone,
the sheep kept the hat on all day. And if you find that hard to
believe, take a look at the picture that proves it.
Mayie Maitia, the founder of the Wool Growers, is a community
leader and an inductee to the Basque Hall of Fame.

The Capona logo was inspired by a leading male
sheep captured in a photograph in 1947. See photo here.
